88mates ("we") takes the protection of your personal data very seriously. This policy explains in detail what data we collect in the app and on the website, why, how it is stored and shared, and how you can control it at any time.
1. Account and identity data
To create an account, we ask for your email address. Authentication is passwordless, using a login code sent by email.
Depending on the features you use, we also collect: first name, last name, date of birth, country of nationality, and your WHV start date — this information is used to personalise your tracking (remaining days calculation, regional work eligibility, etc.).
This data is strictly tied to your account and is never shared with other users, except for what you explicitly choose to make public in a community or Work Ready profile (see sections 3 and 4).
2. Geographic location
The app requests access to your GPS location (via your phone's location service) to show you regional work zones, spots, job listings, and community profiles near you.
You can deny or revoke this access at any time from your phone's settings — some proximity-based features will then be unavailable.
Your precise location is never shared with other users. Depending on your visibility settings, only a city or an approximate distance may be visible to the community.
3. Community profile (optional)
If you fill in your community profile, you may provide: city, status message, Instagram/Facebook accounts, and a profile photo.
This information is voluntarily made public to other app users, according to the visibility settings you choose yourself: "everyone", "my language", or specific languages.
You can change these settings or fully hide your community profile at any time from the app.
4. Work Ready Profile (optional, public if activated)
The Work Ready profile lets you create an application sheet visible to employers. It may include: nationality, age, current city, availability, skills, qualifications (RSA, White Card, driver's licence, etc.), English level, and regional work days already completed.
This profile is only visible if you choose to share it, via a link or QR code that you generate and pass on yourself — it is not indexed or distributed without your explicit action.
Employers viewing your profile can contact you directly via the contact details you provided. You can deactivate this profile at any time from the app, making it immediately invisible.
5. Push notifications
If you enable notifications, we store a push notification token (a unique technical identifier for your device) to alert you about new jobs and spots near you.
Enabling notifications is an explicit opt-in choice, and you can disable them at any time from your profile settings in the app.
6. 88/179-day tracking and personal budget
The app lets you track your regional work days (88/179 days) and your personal budget (transactions, income, expenses).
This data is strictly tied to your account and is never shared with other users, employers, or third parties.
7. Purchases and premium subscriptions
88mates offers premium features via in-app purchase. Subscription and purchase management is handled by RevenueCat, in connection with the App Store (Apple) or Play Store (Google).
88mates does not store any card payment data: payments are entirely processed by the Apple/Google platforms, in accordance with their own privacy policies.
8. Data stored only on your device
Some information stays only on your phone and is never sent to our servers:
- •Australian Tax File Number (TFN) and ABN, if you save them in the TFN/ABN tracking tool
- •The checked boxes of the travel preparation checklist
- •The tax refund (TRS) purchase history saved in the TRS tracker
9. Sharing with third-party providers
We never sell your personal data to third parties for advertising purposes. However, we do rely on technical providers to operate the app:
- •Supabase (AWS infrastructure) — database hosting
- •Apple App Store / Google Play Store — payment processing
- •RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management
- •Expo (push notification service) — receives only the push token and the message content, not your profile data
- •OpenWeatherMap — receives only GPS coordinates to return local weather, no identifiable personal data is transmitted
- •Adzuna, WorkPac, SEEK — external sources for job listings shown in the app; no user data is transmitted to them by 88mates
10. Security and storage
Your data is stored via Supabase (PostgreSQL, AWS infrastructure), with strict access rules (Row Level Security) ensuring each user can only access their own private data.
Data you voluntarily choose to make public (visible community profile, shared Work Ready profile) is accessible according to the visibility preferences you set yourself.
All communications between the app and our servers are encrypted (HTTPS).
11. Data retention period
When you delete your account, your data is kept for 30 days in a deactivated state (to allow restoration in case of accidental deletion), then permanently deleted from our servers.
Expired job listings may be retained for anonymised statistical purposes beyond this period.
12. Your rights (GDPR and equivalents)
If you reside in the European Union or in a country with equivalent legislation, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- •Right of access: view the data we hold about you
- •Right to rectification: correct inaccurate information
- •Right to erasure: request complete deletion of your data
- •Right to portability: receive your data in a structured format
- •Right to object and to restrict processing
13. How to exercise your rights
You can access, rectify, or delete your data directly from your profile settings in the app, or by contacting us at contact@88mates.com.
- •Full account deletion: available from the app (Profile → Delete my account)
- •Disabling push notifications: at any time from the profile settings
- •Controlling community and Work Ready profile visibility: adjustable or hideable at any time
14. Minors
88mates is not intended for people under 18, in line with the minimum age required to obtain a Working Holiday Visa. We do not knowingly collect data about minors.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in our features or legal requirements. The last update date is shown at the top of this page.
